Apex Live 014 - The Art of Jerkery
July 30th, 2018 | 1 hr 33 mins
In the hot mic pre-show, the ultimate Eric Slocum story is recounted, and a Knight Rider ringtone introduces the desire to ride adult big wheels. It's Brad's birthday on the day of recording, the episode is presented entirely free of show notes, and the Phoenix is rising. Brad is in need of good things, Steve is looking for a new job in his current field while addressing the annoying trendiness of his son. We lament the premature ending of Jericho, talk about the best original shows that USA Network has produced, and name drop two '90s classics: Parker Lewis Can't Lose and American Gladiators. In the second half of the show, Steve has the opportunity to ask Brad anything on his birthday. The questions, and the emotional answers, are not to be missed.

Apex Live 013 - Mike Davis Ain't Runnin'
July 20th, 2018 | 2 hrs 46 mins
Jake Morris, a founding member of Apex Combat and member of the inner circle, sits in for the first half of the show because Steve is stuck an hour away for work. In what amounts to two episodes in one, our longest show yet hits the ground running as Brad and Jake discuss bums, their schedule and drinking habits, and how the word can pertain to both the financially disadvantaged and opponents in the world of boxing that refuse to run. Brad briefly addresses the unintentional hiatus for the show in recent weeks, speaking openly about the adverse effects but without naming names. Continuing in the sports heavy first half of the program, Brad and Jake preview and discuss the 2018 West Virginia football season, rant about the stupidity of the current playoff system, ridicule Pitt and Virginia Tech, revisit the worst possible memory for Pittsburgh Pirates fans and one of the best in the history of the Atlanta Braves, and share some of their best stories from section 103 at Mountaineer Field. Steve is back in the studio for the second half of the episode, and he has had enough of bad days of work in a certain local area. He has also had enough of work in general, and does not hesitate to air his grievances. Dave Markert is called out for bleaching his hair and Steve discusses his recent family vacation to what he calls Hillbilly Heaven in Tennessee. Brad makes an official book announcement for 2019, and the perils of social media, greed, and the materialistic mindset are talked about in context of decision-making and the influence that we have on people whether we intend to or not. Steve compares being intubated for surgery to deep-throating in the most intimate sense, the words "Date Rape Dessert" make an appearance and the reason why is inexplicable, and acronyms for someone's name are presented despite neither host having any involvement. In the final segment, Steve vents his frustration with the FDA and their intrusion upon almond milk, Brad and Steve present their Top 5 Desert Island Women lists, and Brad closes the show with a thank you note for his inner circle. This is not one to be missed, no matter who you are. #WatchYourSix

Apex Live 012 - Chipped Beef is Never a Good Story
June 2nd, 2018 | 1 hr 49 mins
In the hot mic pre-show, a new slang term is announced that is not yet listed on Urban Dictionary but will be soon, Steve breaks out more old English for no reason, and the word "merkin" is mentioned for the first time ever as Steve continues his burgeoning second career as a Foley artist. The show begins with a discussion of eating crickets, hating celebrities and athletes, and Steve wants a custom shirt. The presidential pardon of former world heavyweight champion Jack Johnson is covered. Steve's girl Stephanie chimes in on playing PUBG, we learn things about Steve's mom, and we address the ridiculous tweet from a Canadian woman who thinks Father's Day should be banned.
In the second half of the program, we learn about how Steve and Stephanie met, hear two words put together that have likely never before been used as a term, and offer another friendly disclaimer about the importance of phrasing. Several different Steves appear, including his aliases Juan Margarita and Bret Stevenson, and we review feedback from a listener overseas before discussing a guest or two that we would enjoy putting On the Spot soon. Finally, we postulate that a famous sportscaster is still out there biting hookers and try to close the show on a positive note.
Tune in for our most relaxed episode yet!

Apex Live 011 - The Toughest Bar Fighter at the Nursing Home
May 18th, 2018 | 2 hrs 24 mins
"Raise my seed. It will hate you!" Steve says as part of his desire to cuckold people that he doesn't like. Sadly, the context is not airable but the show starts quickly. Work complaints give way to references to lamenting that we grew up a decade too late. We hate the Kardashians and the cultural plague that they represent, and the anger results in a literal power outage near our studio. Family grievances are aired, the latest school shooting is addressed, and we throw shade at big pharma. Before the segment break, we pay tribute to a radio legend who retired in March, during our hiatus, after five decades on the air. In the second segment, we welcome Justin Novaria back to the program to discuss recent events in the world of boxing before he settles in to be the first guest in our On the Spot feature. You don't want to miss Justin's interview as he recounts some of the most important moments of his professional boxing career and discusses his views on life in general.

Apex Live 010 - Mushroom in the Middle
May 9th, 2018 | 1 hr 16 mins
We're (finally) back with our first episode of 2018! Once the show begins we wish the listeners a severely belated Happy New Year, drop in another critique of the Varsity Blues barbecue scene that somehow leads to a discussion about Bill Paxton, Randy Travis, and country music in the 1980s. Our lengthy hiatus is discussed and explained, and our discussion of egomania, megalomania, and politicians is rudely interrupted by a message from Dave Markert... leading to an unplanned ambush interview. Stay tuned for a Virginia Tech update, proper grenade-tossing technique, and the introduction of a new segment of the program and highlight the importance of finding common ground. We're back to it, and we'll talk again soon.

Apex Live 009 - I Missed Bake Day for This
December 15th, 2017 | 1 hr 59 mins
Before the start of the show, Steve finds out that Teddy Pendergrass is dead and discusses a work-related venture into Virginia. Brad and Steve talk about not missing the NFL during the 2017 season, why you should never shine a black light on the wall of a Hokie, why Auburn losing is good for everyone, why some colleges are a bad fit in their conference, and the history of great coaches from West Virginia. Steve's new diet and boxing plans for the immediate future are announced, leading into a discussion about the pros and cons of fad diets and artificial foods. On a sad note, we say a temporary farewell to Ronnie, a member of the Apex Combat fight family that is being forced to relocate for work. On a happier note, we justify starting a GoFundMe account for the four-year-old from Harrison County, West Virginia that was reprimanded in his Pre-K class for chanting "Eat Shit Pitt" during snack time and fondly remember the days of carefree youth. Justin "TeddyBear" Novaria joins the show in the second segment to discuss Miguel Cotto vs. Sadam Ali and Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux. Also, stories are told about the arrogance, incompetence, and outright corruption of boxing commissions, and we look ahead to the WBO Middleweight Championship fight between Billy Joe Saunders and David Lemieux. There's even more... but you'll just have to listen. Like it. Share it. Tell your friends. #ApexLive #WatchYourSix #DontBlackLightAHokieWall

Apex Live 008 - We're Schizophrenics, I Think
November 26th, 2017 | 1 hr 34 mins
We're back! On episode 8, we recommit ourselves to the general dislike of people at-large. Brad and Steve discuss Justice League, Gal Gadot, the Deschanel sisters, and Steve's possible dietary changes. Brad talks participating in Intellivision day and an upcoming interview on an Intellivision-related podcast, and the beginning of the journey of writing the next book. The second half of the show highlights everything from the death penalty to reminiscence about John Garabedian's Open House Party to Fast Times at Ridgemont High and A Night at the Roxbury. We give thanks for what matters, toss aside what does not, throw shade at Virginia Tech and fake holidays, give a nod to Boise State and their blue field, and talk about Steve's kids. Like it. Share it. Tell your friends. #WatchYourSix #ApexLive

Apex Live 007 - Statewide Swear Jar
October 19th, 2017 | 2 hrs 1 min
In the hot mic pre-show content, Steve discusses work annoyances, the Penn State scandal, the overall pathetic nature of the NCAA, and whores. Steve hates Savage Garden, Brad recaps the experience of West Virginia's comeback win over Texas Tech, and Steve has to run outside to turn off his headlights before returning to discuss dictators. Brad makes a book announcement, a discussion of Joel Osteen and Benny Hinn breaks out, and Steve reveals his secret desire to write a screenplay. The episodic discussion of retro gaming leads to teasing the appearance of the show's official black ambassador and why most film adaptations of novels are dreadful before the introduction of a brand new fake controversy. Our Georgia Correspondent, and Brad's girlfriend, Ashley chimes in with her first commentary and it is not to be missed. A story involving mixtapes at the mall reveals Steve's love of Rashida Jones and the hidden motivation for every invention in history. Also, a brief look at the libertarian tax model in light of the Cruz-Sanders debate on CNN, the Top 5 '90s One-Hit Wonder Songs, and more. #ApexLive #SuperMario3IsRacist

Apex Live 006 - Make Sense Common Again
October 10th, 2017 | 2 hrs 16 mins
The Boondock Saints, Vegeta, Natural Born Killers, and The Chase, and people we don't like are mentioned in the nine minutes of hot mic content before the show open. In the first segment of the show, Brad and Steve discuss the necessity of basic hygiene, moderation, and food-related television. Brad discusses losing his brakes on a steep hill, being best man at a wedding, public speaking, and social anxiety. A mention of the new Justice League trailer devolves into a discussion of Aquaman, midgets, the Rule of Five, choosing the lead actor in a potential biographical film of Richard Simmons, and J. Edgar Hoover. Also, the physical fitness of the members of Hydra, why the casting of Varsity Blues was less than stellar, horrible jokes about an NBA legend, Jason Statham, hating the Minnesota Twins and the Washington Nationals, and terrible local television commercials. The retro gaming update covers the fighting and price gouging over the SNES Classic and the disappointment of the Genesis Flashback. Before the break, it's listener-submitted Desert Island Dinner lists, Dave's failure to break the nugget record, KungFuSpaceman reaching affiliate status on Twitch, losing more potential sponsors, and lost Jackie Chan films. The second half features a discussion of the Las Vegas shooting at the beginning of October, the political aftermath, the danger of mislabeling the issues in question, the absurdity of believing that more laws will have any effect on the most evil of criminals, conspiracy theories, the strawman arguments that inevitably arise in the wake of such events, Alex Jones, and the continuous nonsense about the Russians. It's the longest show to date but it never slows down. It's episode 006 of Apex Live! #MakeSenseCommonAgain
